Old Man Isekai - Chapter 12

I am a department manager at a major corporation. And I am currently clutching my head in despair over the news that has been dominating the headlines day after day.

"I am currently standing in front of the apartment complex where 40-year-old Dai Amakusa, an employee of the major firm ○○, resided. Mr. Amakusa has been missing for three weeks. The reason this case is being reported daily—in a country like Japan where tens of thousands go missing every year—is the baffling nature of his disappearance: he vanished instantly from his room.

Please look at this surveillance footage. This building has cameras at every entrance, exit, elevator, and throughout the central hallway. Unless he jumped from his tenth-floor window, it is impossible for Mr. Amakusa to have left. Furthermore, a female rookie from the same company has also gone missing under identical circumstances. Where have these two disappeared to? Or rather, where on earth did they go?"

"Stop broadcasting this cheap trash! Dammit!"

I switched off the TV. I haven't slept in weeks, so my fuse is short. The reason? Because that idiot Amakusa vanished!

I had entrusted that guy with the role of project leader for several multi-million dollar accounts. Now that the leader is gone, everything is collapsing. Every single day, I’m stuck repeatedly begging partner companies and clients for project extensions.

I wondered who the hell was stupid enough to dump so much onto him, only to realize with a pang of regret—it was me.

I've watched him since he was a rookie. At first, he was a useless fool. He messed up constantly; I can't even remember how many times I had to go with him to apologize. But the thing about him was that he never made the same mistake twice. He was always studying, always growing. Well, most of that "studying" involved his relationships with women, but for some reason, he applied those lessons to the office... it was a complete mystery.

Nowadays, work doesn't move unless he's there. Of course, being the prepared type, he shared all information with the project members just in case. But information is just data—it takes a person to process it and give orders! His ability to perfectly juggle multiple projects and issue precise instructions from a mountain of data was abnormal.

I thought many times that I needed to promote him quickly and have him train a successor before the system collapsed. However, contrary to my intentions, he just kept producing massive results. As a result, I kept saying, "I'll promote him after this project is over," over and over... and this is the result. If anyone is to blame for this mess, it's me!!

The only saving grace is that the clients all said the same thing: "Well, if Mr. Amakusa isn't there, I suppose it can't be helped," and gave their consent immediately. The women at the client firms, in particular, seemed quite heartbroken.

The guy is popular, yet for some reason, he can never get married. I wanted him to finally settle down, so I introduced him to my daughter under the pretext of having him tutor her in English. It went exactly as planned—they even progressed to a physical relationship. The part I didn't expect was that my daughter actually became fluent in English and started saying she wanted to work overseas... No, seriously, why did it turn out like that?

Speaking of women, it seems that rookie girl disappeared too. I heard she was the most beautiful or "cute" one among this year's intake, though I don't remember her face. Her absence doesn't affect the workload. Still, as a father of a daughter myself, I hope she's found soon.

He didn't elope with that rookie, did he? Well, considering they both vanished from their own separate rooms, that’s impossible... Either way, I just want him found soon. And more importantly, I want someone to save me!
