Middle-Aged Man Isekai Summoning - Chapter 12
A Certain Department Manager's Lament
I am a department manager at a major corporation. And I am currently holding my head in my hands over the news being reported day after day.
"Right now, I am standing in front of the apartment building of 40-year-old Dai Amakusa, an employee at the major corporation ○○ Company. Mr. Amakusa has been missing for three weeks. The reason this case is being broadcast daily—out of the tens of thousands of missing persons cases in Japan every year—is that he vanished suddenly from inside his room.
Here is the security camera footage. This apartment building has security cameras at all entrances, the elevator, and near the central area. Therefore, unless he jumped from his 10th-floor room, Mr. Amakusa could not have left his apartment. What is equally mysterious is that a female rookie employee from the same company has also gone missing in a similar manner. Now, where did these two vanish to? Or where could they have gone?"
"Broadcasting such cheap news! Dammit!"
I turned off the TV. My short temper was due to not having slept properly for the past few weeks. The reason? Because that idiot Amakusa went missing!
I had entrusted him as the project leader for several multi-hundred-million-yen projects. With that leader gone, everything collapsed. Day in and day out, I've had to repeatedly request project postponements from affiliated companies and clients.
"Who was the idiot that dumped so much work on him!" I caught myself thinking, only to reflect on the fact that it was me.
I've watched him ever since he was a new hire, and at first, he was a useless fool who couldn't do anything right. He made mistakes constantly, and I can't even count how many times I had to apologize alongside him. However, he never made the same mistake twice, constantly studying and growing. Well, most of that studying was about dealing with women, though why that somehow translated into usefulness at the office remains a complete mystery...
Now, work doesn't move forward without him. Of course, keeping worst-case scenarios in mind, he shared all information with the rest of the project members. But even if you have the information, it still takes a person to process it and issue instructions! Handling multiple projects while flawlessly processing and managing commands from a mountain of data—he was abnormal in that regard.
Several times, I thought about promoting him early so he could train subordinates before everything collapsed. But contrary to my thoughts, he kept producing massive results one after another. As a result of repeatedly delaying it with "I'll promote him after this project is finished..." it ended up like this... If anyone is to blame for this situation, it's me!!
The only saving grace was that our clients unanimously agreed, saying, "If Mr. Amakusa isn't around, then it can't be helped." The female clients in particular seemed very disappointed.
Even though he's popular with women, he somehow never gets married. Wanting him to settle down soon, I introduced him to my daughter under the pretext of having him teach her English. As intended, things even developed into a physical relationship with my daughter. The unexpected part, however, was that my daughter actually became fluent in English and declared she wanted to work overseas... I mean, why did it turn out like that?!
Also, speaking of women, it seems the rookie female employee went missing too. Among this year's new hires, I heard people saying she was the prettiest or cutest, but I don't remember her face. Even without that rookie, work isn't an issue. But as a parent with a daughter of my own, I hope she's found soon.
He didn't elope with that girl, right? Well, since they both vanished from their own rooms, that can't be it... Either way, I hope he's found soon. And more than anything, I hope someone saves me soon!
