The Betrayed Necromancer - Chapter 12
The Demon Hecatoncheires
"Guh...!"
Struck by Hecatoncheires, Milial tumbled across the ground. Rolling over, she steadied her posture and glared at the demon.
"Damage rate 20%... Determining that combat can continue. Setting the threat 'Demon Hecatoncheires', which obstructs escape, as a new target for elimination."
Milial deployed four cannons around herself, pointing their barrels directly at Hecatoncheires. However, Hecatoncheires didn't care in the least and closed in on her.
"Commencing target annihilation...
The four cannons fired beams of light. The projectiles flew straight toward Hecatoncheires, hitting him with tremendous force and exploding.
Yet, even after taking that direct hit, Hecatoncheires merely paused slightly and remained completely unfazed. The spot where it hit was slightly scorched, but brushing it off cleared away the mark, leaving not a single scratch.
"The Arc Blaze isn't working...?! Incomprehensible, abnormal, impossible!"
(With power like that, your rank as an angel must be pretty low. A pea-shooter like this can't kill me no matter how many times you hit me.)
Hecatoncheires closed the distance as he spoke. Milial fired her cannons repeatedly to attack, but none of them dealt any damage.
(I don't feel a thing from this kind of stuff, but it's getting pretty annoying. Let's wrap this up quickly.)
With that, Hecatoncheires grabbed Milial's head firmly with one of his right hands. Raising the arm he had used to grab her, he slammed her down into the ground with all his might.
"Gah...!?"
Her body drove deep into the earth, and Milial wore a strained expression. Her body was battered, and the divine radiance she had when she first appeared was completely gone.
(It's over.)
Hecatoncheires clenched the fists of his six arms and rained punches down relentlessly onto the fallen Milial. Fists capable of shattering the ground in a single blow poured over her countless times. Dozens of punches per second rained down, and Milial took them all with her own body.
"Gah, aa...!"
When the rain of destruction stopped, Milial was already covered in wounds. Her clothes were torn, and her whole body was stained with blood and dirt. Even her well-groomed face was marred by bruises and cuts, leaving her in a miserable state. No matter how sturdy an angel might be, she was helpless before Hecatoncheires' raw power.
(Crow, is this good enough?)
"Yeah, excellent work. Thank you."
(Don't mention it. In exchange, you'll give me your magic power again, right?)
"Yeah, of course. I'll pay the price properly."
You cannot summon a demon for free. A corresponding price is always required.
The price for Hecatoncheires is "magic power." Some demons demand lives as compensation, making magic power feel like a relatively gentle price, but Hecatoncheires has a massive appetite, so he consumes enough magic power to kill an ordinary person.
However, I possess a unique trait that converts miasma into magic power, meaning I have virtually infinite magic power inside the Abyss, where miasma is boundless. I can more than amply meet Hecatoncheires' demands.
On top of that, as a necromancer, my magic power apparently smells and tastes extremely delicious to divine beings and demons alike, leaving Hecatoncheires and other demons utterly captivated. Thanks to that, making a summoning pact wasn't all that difficult.
(Alright, call me again once all the fuss is over. Looking forward to it.)
"Yeah. You helped a lot."
Hecatoncheires gave a thumbs-up with all six arms, stepped back through the
The other side of the Gates of Tartarus leads to the underworld. It should be a quite harsh environment, but Hecatoncheires possesses top-tier power among demons. Returning probably isn't much trouble for him at all.
"Now... we're alone."
"Guh...!"
Milial crawled across the dirt, glaring at me. She was already battered and incapable of combat, yet her eyes were still very much alive.
"You're awfully stubborn. Unfortunately, only a tragic end awaits you, you know?"
"…Certainly, I have been defeated. It may be that functional cessation is unavoidable. But the same goes for you."
"What?"
"I have already reported your existence to Aion-sama via magic communication. Soon, an army of angels will arrive here and purge you."
Milial spoke with an expression convinced of her victory.
Magic communication is a communication technology conducted via magic. It's a fairly advanced technique that even high-level mages can usually only use over short distances within the same city, but angels apparently can transmit it all the way up to god.
"I don't know who you are. But no matter how powerful you might be, you are helpless before the combined forces of god and the angels. You will die right here without accomplishing a thing."
"Ah... is that the end of your speech?"
When I said this lazily, Milial looked at me with incredulous eyes.
"Do you not understand the situation? You are going to die right here!"
"The one who doesn't understand the situation is you. When are the angel army and all that supposed to show up?"
I looked up at the sky, but only a blue sky stretched out above. There was neither the heavenly light that burns everything nor an army of angels to be seen.
"Guh... why. Why is their arrival so late..."
"Still don't get it? You guys were our targets right from the start. Naturally, we came here having made every possible countermeasure."
"An
Milial wore an astounded expression. It must be her first time being targeted. Well, that's only natural, considering that hardly anyone even believed angels existed until they were loaned out to those heroes after their certification.
"Of course we anticipated that angels would contact the outside world by some means. That's why, simultaneous with your appearance, I erected a barrier with a 100km radius centered around Borut. That barrier is a special one that blocks all magic power; unfortunately, your magic communication didn't get through."
"R-Radius of 100km...!? Abnormal, impossible, for a human to erect a barrier on that scale...!"
Indeed, for an ordinary mages, even creating a barrier covering a single city is difficult. It would probably only be achievable if dozens of mages pooled their powers together.
However, my subordinates aren't ordinary. Just a single person created and maintained that barrier. Thanks to that, the fact that I'm beating up an angel here hasn't reached god in the slightest.
"Th-That's..."
Realizing that no help was coming, Milial fell into despair. I walked up to her and grabbed her halo with my right hand.
"W-What are you――――!?"
"While Hecatoncheires was fighting you, I was observing you the whole time. Angelic special powers are related to this 'ring', aren't they? Sorry, but I'm going to break it."
