The Betrayed Necromancer - Chapter 13
Fall from Grace
When Milial used her angelic abilities, I had confirmed that this halo was emitting a special magical power. It is likely that the ability to communicate with God is also related to this halo. If so, we must destroy that function here and now if we are to bring her back. If our kingdom's existence were to be known by God, that "Light" would surely be dropped upon us once again. Of course, we have countermeasures in place against that light now, so we wouldn't be destroyed as easily as before, but even so, the path to our revenge would be pushed much further away. Revenge must be carried out quietly and swiftly. It is best for the target to realize what revenge is only when the blade is already at their throat.
"Hmm... I see. As expected, this halo is the source of the angel's power."
"S-Stop it! Don't touch it with your filthy hands!"
Milial excessively detests having her halo touched. However, naturally, I do not stop. I send magical power into the interior of the halo to probe its internal structure and functions.
"Alright... Well, I more or less understand it now. The magical communication function is around here, isn't it?"
"What are you doing?! Let go—Ghk!?"
I grab the halo with both hands and squeeze it with all my might. Then, with a crisp crack! like glass, a fissure runs across the halo. At the same time, Milial's body jerks violently! It seems they share the same sense of touch.
"G-Gah... L-Let go... Ugh-ooo..."
"Ha-ha. You're making an amazing face. Was this organ really that important to you?"
"Damn you... I will kill you... U-Gooo!?"
When I squeeze the halo even harder, Milial writhes like a fish out of water and ends up wetting herself. Tears, drool, and nasal mucus stream unappealingly from her face, leaving her once neatly-arranged features completely unrecognizable. If Gaoran were to see this, he'd probably be shocked. No, knowing that pervert, would he get excited instead?
"I have no personal grudge against you, but I cannot show mercy to God's minions. I will use you up to the very end and make you the first step toward my revenge on God."
"Y-You bastard... Guh-uu?! O-Oooh...!, I-I'm cumming...!"
Milial struggles and thrashes about in agony. The old me might have felt pity, but the current me feels nothing. I apply more force to the halo, setting out to destroy the part believed to be responsible for magical communication.
"Rest assured, I won't kill you. Though you might wish you had died right here."
"Damn you, I will never forgive..."
"Well then. See you later."
With those words, I put strength into both hands and snap off a part of the halo. The halo shatters with a loud clack! sound. At that final moment, Milial's body jumps violently upward.
"O-Oooh-ooooh!?"
Screaming while rolling her eyes back, Milial collapses on the spot and loses consciousness. I thought for a second she might have died, but checking her chest, it's still moving up and down. It seems she's still breathing.
"I wasn't sure if angels could be resurrected, so I'm glad she's alive."
Ordinary humans, animals, and monsters can be resurrected using my necromancy—that has already been verified. However, I didn't know if that applied to beings like angels or gods. I'm glad I didn't have to test it on the fly.
"Now then, time to head back... Hm?"
Just as I successfully neutralize the angel and turn back to return to Gina and Gaoran, a figure emerges from the shadow of the trees. It was an old man wearing a black robe. An old man characterized by shoulder-length white hair and sharp eyes. He trots over toward me.
"Young Master! That was a splendid performance! This Merlin is deeply moved! Are you injured at all?!"
"Ah, I'm fine. Good work to you too, Merlin."
"No, no, this is nothing at all. If it's the Young Master's request, I would gladly walk through fire and water. I am happy to take on any hardship!"
Answering with a smile was one of my subordinates, Merlin Hanowa. Looking only at his attitude toward me, he seems like a kind-hearted grandpa, but Merlin is a man feared as the strongest grand archmage. Legends remain that he burned down a whole pack of dragons all by himself, and nations that opposed Merlin were destroyed overnight. You could never guess it by looking at that doting-grandfather face. Right after I resurrected him, he was quiet, reticent, and hard to approach, maintaining an aura fitting for a legendary wizard. However, as I took Merlin as my master and learned magic from him, he somehow grew fond of me and eventually started treating me as affectionately as if I were his own grandson. Well, he carries out his duties faithfully, so I don't mind.
"I've destroyed the parts thought to be responsible for magical communication. Just in case, though, could you check it on your end too, Merlin?"
"Understood, Young Master. I am fully aware."
At my command, Merlin narrows his eyes and responds with a serious expression. If I leave it to Merlin, it should be fine. I'll leave this place in his hands.
"Then I'll head back to Gina. Once I do, we'll return to the kingdom immediately." "Understood. I shall proceed with preparations to welcome you."
"I'm counting on you."
Entrusting the disposal of the angel to Merlin, I returned to where Gina was waiting.
